Get Engaged Over Valentine’s Day Weekend? Read This!

Congratulations on your engagement!

Your engagement story is one you’ll share for years to come! The first weeks of being engaged are some of the sweetest so savor all the congratulations, every we’re engaged kiss, and know it’s totally okay to stare at your ring (like, all the time!).

Now that you have a ring on your left hand, you’ve got a wedding to plan

This can seem daunting at first; but I’m here to provide with questions you need to answer before you dive into all things wedding planning.

Truth Bomb…

You’ll probably have quite a few people in your ear at first about when they think you should get married, where you should get married, and what vendors you should hire BUT don’t let this overwhelm you or turn you away from something you’ve had your heart set on!

If you want a fall wedding, have a fall wedding. If you want cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake, get the cupcakes. This is your time as a couple and all final decisions should be yours to make!

Personally, I’m a HUGE fan of bounce castles at weddings! Especially if kids are attending! This one is available from Inflate48!

Set Your Wedding Vendor Priorities

One of the best things you can do for yourself before you start planning is to set your wedding vendor priorities. For example, what three wedding vendor categories are most important to you?

Some couples top three are venue, caterer, and photographer. While others may opt for florist, photographer, and a band.

Whatever your top three categories are, this is where you know you’ll be willing to splurge a little more or where you’ll be putting a majority of your budget to.

AND… if you have a wedding vendor that you just HAVE to have to make your wedding the best day ever, go ahead and book them first. It’s totally okay to book a vendor before you have a venue to ensure you get your top priority vendors (i.e. wedding planner, photographer, cake baker, DJ, etc.).

Another fun trend is the donut wall! I love that guests can choose different flavors and it makes fo a super fun display! You can rent this one from Sessions Event Rentals!

Ask Yourself These Questions before Your Start Planning

  • How many guests do you plan on inviting? Make sure to factor in your immediate family and wedding party.
  • What is your budget for the whole shabang? Is it realistic based on your guest count?
  • Who is paying for what?
  • Is there a specific time of the year you want to get married?
  • What type of food are you wanting to serve and how (i.e. buffet, plated, stations, etc.)?
  • What colors do you envision for your wedding day?
  • How many people do you want in your wedding party?
  • Do you want to hire a wedding planner to help you with all things wedding planning? Even if you don’t need a full-planning wedding planner, I always recommend at least someone who is on-site the day-of to assist you with logistics. Usually wedding planners “day-of” service begins a couple months out from your wedding date.

I understand there will be a lot of questions during the first stages and there is a lot of info to take in But, knowing the answers to these questions will help you tremendously in the process!

Remember to take a deep breath and enjoy time as an engaged couple!
